Motion to 2007 AGM re flawed election process

Whereas Professional Engineers Ontario held an election in or about February 2007 including the positions of one Vice President for which two candidates declared and the positions of two Councillor-at-Large for which three candidates declared.

Whereas during January and February Professional Engineers Ontario sent out statements from some candidates as supplementary information included with Chapter newsletters.

Whereas in those hard copy and electronic communications with the members the position statement of candidate B for Vice President was included under the title and substance of the statement of candidate A to the extent that it was not clear that candidate B had made any statement.

Whereas in those hard copy and electronic communications with the members the position statement of candidate D for Councillor-at-Large was included under the title and substance of the position statement of candidate C to the extent that it was not clear that candidate D had made any statement. The statement of candidate E was not affected.

Whereas candidate D brought this to the attention of President Quinn and CEO Kim Allen by e-mail dated 19 February 2007 and also to CEO Kim Allen by e-mail on 27 March 2007

Whereas candidate D spoke directly with both President Quinn and CEO Allen on Thursday 22 February 2007 and requested that the matter of a tainted election be discussed at the 2 March Council meeting both parties declined that request.

Whereas up to 12 April 2007 no candidates have been made aware of the extent of the problem, nor the cause of it.

Be it resolved that PEO investigate fully the extent of the problem, and the cause of the problem and the steps to be taken to ensure that future elections are not tainted by similar shortcomings.
